Privacy Policy — Sharda Panchang

Sharda Panchang ("the App") is a Hindu lunar calendar (Panchang) app published by Misri Library. This policy explains what information the App collects, how it is used, and your choices. By using the App you agree to this policy.

In short: signing in is optional and the App is fully functional without it. All of your data — saved dates, city, and settings — always starts out stored only on your device. If you choose to sign in with Google or Apple (Settings → Account), the App additionally stores your saved dates and settings in the cloud so they can sync to your other devices signed into the same account. Birth date and time are the one exception: they never leave your device, signed in or not. If you never sign in, none of this applies — nothing is ever uploaded.

1. Information collected

• Saved Tithi entries: names, dates/times of birth (or a directly-entered tithi), birth city, and an optional gender that you add on the Tithi tab. Gender, if entered, is used only to default which person is the bride/groom in the optional Kundli match-comparison feature. Stored on your device. If you are signed in, everything about an entry except its date and time also syncs to the cloud under your account — including gender, if you entered one — so a second signed-in device can show the same saved people; a second device cannot compute a chart for them, since it never receives the date or time.
• Preferences: your chosen Home and Away cities, theme, sunrise basis, lunar month system, hidden festivals, notification preferences, and calendar view. Stored on your device, and synced to the cloud under your account if you are signed in.
• Account information (only if you sign in): if you choose to sign in with Google or Apple, we receive and store your name and/or email address as provided by Google or Apple, and a unique account identifier, so that your data can be linked to your account and synced across your devices. Apple's "Hide My Email" is honored if you choose it during sign-in.

If you never sign in, the App does not collect your name, email address, or any account information — signing in is entirely optional and nothing above is required to use any feature of the App.

2. How information is used

• To calculate and display panchang, tithi, and festival dates for your chosen city.
• To show your saved Tithi entries and their yearly occurrence.
• To send local reminder notifications (Tithi and Festival reminders), scheduled and computed entirely on your device — the App does not send you push notifications.
• If you sign in: to sync your saved dates (minus date/time) and settings across the devices where you are signed into the same account, and to let you delete that account and its cloud data on request (Settings → Account → Delete account).

3. Third-party services

The App does not use analytics, crash reporting, or advertising. If you choose to sign in, the App uses Firebase Authentication and Firebase Cloud Firestore (Google-provided backend services) to authenticate you and store your synced data, plus Sign in with Apple and/or Google Sign-In to let you sign in with an existing account instead of creating a new password. These services only see data covered by this policy — the App does not send them analytics or advertising data. See Google's and Apple's own privacy policies for how each of those companies separately handles sign-in data on their end.

If you never sign in, none of the above services are contacted or receive any data from the App.

4. Sharing your data

The App has an Export and Share link/QR feature (Tithi tab) that lets you deliberately create a file or link containing your chosen Tithi entries, so you can back them up or send them to someone else. This only happens when you explicitly choose to export or share — the App never does this automatically or in the background, and it is independent of whether you are signed in.

Exporting or sharing hands the data (as raw JSON text, or as a link/QR code encoding that data) to your device's own share sheet, where you choose the destination — for example Messages, email, or AirDrop. Once you pick a destination, the data leaves your device to wherever you sent it; the App itself does not upload it anywhere or send it to us.

Before exporting or sharing, you choose which entries to include, and whether the export should include dates/times of birth or omit them — a "Tithi only" or "no DOB" export/link contains just the name and tithi, with no birth date or time.

We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with anyone for advertising or marketing purposes.

5. Data storage, security, and retention

• All data described in Section 1, including dates/times of birth, is stored locally on your device using the operating system's standard app-local key-value storage (SharedPreferences on Android/iOS). It is not encrypted separately from your device's own storage/OS-level protections.
• If you sign in, your saved dates (minus date/time) and settings are also stored in Firebase Cloud Firestore, secured so that only your signed-in account can read or write its own data.
• Local data persists until you clear it (e.g. via the "Clear All" option), or until you uninstall the App. Cloud data persists until you delete it — either by removing an entry or preference it came from, or by deleting your account (Settings → Account → Delete account), which removes all of that account's cloud data immediately, followed by the sign-in account itself.
• Signing out does not delete your local data, and does not by itself delete your cloud data — use Delete account to remove cloud data.

6. Your choices

• Signing in is optional: every feature of the App works fully without it. You can sign in or out at any time from Settings → Account.
• Notifications: you can disable Tithi or Festival reminders individually in Settings → Notifications, or revoke notification permission in your device settings.
• Clear your local data: use "Clear All" on the Tithi tab, or uninstall the App to remove all locally stored data.
• Delete your account and cloud data: Settings → Account → Delete account. This is immediate and cannot be undone.

7. Children's privacy

The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Signing in requires creating or using an existing Google or Apple account, which are themselves subject to that provider's own age requirements.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance.
